K&R Map Compass K1L
There are really two big features that set this baseplate map compass apart from other appearingly similar baseplate compasses: a thermo-elastic and bezel-free capsule.
K&R's thermo-elastic capsule is flexible, not brittle. This accomplishes two things: 1) the capsule flexes with temperature changes to keep out bubbles, and 2) the capsule doesn't develop leaking hairline cracks when you drop it (or step on it).
The bezel-free capsule works just like a bezel -- the 360 degree azimuth scale (with 2 degree resolution) rotates with a simple twist. But the scale is on the inside of the transparent capsule, not on an opaque outer bezel. This unique design maximizes your transparent surface and makes map readings more accurate by placing the azimuth scale directly onto the map.
Other features of the K-1L map compass are a luminous needle, luminous north points inside the capsule, a magnifying glass, a cm ruler, and 1:24,000 and 1:63,360 map scales. Each K-1L compass also includes a comfortably wide neck lanyard with a quick-release buckle. Kasper & Richter has been manufacturing precision instruments in Germany since 1920.
Dimensions: 4.1 in x 2.4 in
Weight: 1.4 oz
